GARDEN NOTES: The first blooms on H. 'Lord of Autumn' are most welcome,
because they come when most other daylily plants are nearly done for the season.
Because the bright bronze flowers are borne on tall, well-branched scapes, they really
catch the eye.
My plant is most spectacular in the latter part of the
afternoon when I view it against a forest background, as both the photos (above
and below) show. It isn't the individual flowers that make this plant a standout,
but the plant's overall presence in the garden. 'Lord of Autumn' was a favorite
of AHS Region 8's daylily mentor, the late Al Rogers, and it was he who made it available to
the rest of us.
